Raise Owner
Definition of a Raise Owner, the one person who directs a crowdfunding raise and makes or gets every decision it needs, quickly.
A Raise Owner is the one person who directs a crowdfunding raise from planning through the close. Many people do the work on a raise: counsel, the CPA, the platform, the marketing team, and the company's own staff. The Raise Owner is the person they all go to for a decision, and the one who keeps the raise terms, the messaging, the calendar, and the legal, technical, and accounting details consistent with each other.
The term was coined by Bryce W Jones of HookVerb. A similar role is sometimes called the campaign quarterback.
What makes someone a Raise Owner
- Availability. The role is measured in speed to response, not hours. A Raise Owner can drop other work and answer in minutes.
- Authority. They can decide, or they have a direct line to the person who can, with answers back the same day.
- A view across every workstream, not just marketing or legal.
- Experience with raises, or support from people who have it.
Why a raise needs one
A raise costs money every day it is open, in ad spend, payroll, and professional fees. When nobody owns the decisions, or a committee shares them, work waits on answers while those costs keep running. A busy CEO, an employee with another job, the funding platform, and the marketing agency each leave gaps when they try to fill the role. See Equity crowdfunding.
